Pedagogy & Textbooks & Equity
Limited Capacity seats available

Keeping in mind that our students may not be as digitally savvy as we assume, this session will take a slow-motion approach to helping students learn to navigate the various OER offerings they may encounter from discipline to discipline.  Butler students enter the college with diverse levels of prior learning, expectations, and available resources. Our PDX-series classes - required at the beginning of most BCC pathways - aim to level this gap by bringing students' expectations about college in closer alignment with the realities and possibilities of their coursework. Central to its approach are the free, interactive materials housed in the courses' Canvas shells, a virtual "textbook" offering a home-grown alternative variety of OER developed in partnership with EdTech and replicable in various other contexts. This session will review the history of this open resource's development, showcase its newest version, and demonstrate benefits to student success and equity culled over several years of the program's evolving implementation.
